Process//Product

2020
Process//Product is a viewing of the creative process through J.S. Bach’s Sonata No. 1 in G Minor for Solo Violin. As we were building a concept for this project, we found that in each movement, there were elements that related to moments which we had all experienced in the creative process- afternoons of inspiration, mornings of reflection, moments of frustration, times of elation, and more. We also wanted to create a project that blurred the lines between that which is the work that goes into making, and the moments when we have the chance to present a polished product; we saw that there is creative value in both making, presenting, and sharing. In this video, you’ll see and hear our take on the creative process in a way that corresponds to each movement of the sonata: I. Adagio; Warm-Up, II. Fugue; Ideation, III. Siciliano, Frustration/Kindness, IV. Presto; Performance. This video was filmed at Promisek, in Bridgewater, CT, and is a collaboration between Gioia Gedicks (violin, audio editing, and composition of intro/conclusion music), Talia Hart (dance/choreography), Michael Rooney (filming/photography), and Sarah Zahorodni (violin and video editing). Special thanks to Promisek House & Community.
